Made for Warmth

A ministry where every stitch matters. Ugly Quilts brings people together to create handmade sleeping bags from donated materials, offering warmth and encouragement to neighbors in need while building meaningful connections along the way.

Stitched with Love

For more than 25 years, Ugly Quilts has been a meaningful sewing ministry dedicated to sharing the gift of warmth with neighbors in need. What began through the leadership of Eleanor Taylor and the ladies of the UWF has grown into a lasting mission of compassion and care.
Since 1999, nearly 2,100 sleeping bags have been donated to Horizon House and Disabled Veterans for outreach to people experiencing homelessness. Every stitch tells a story of generosity, hope, and practical love.

Bringing Donated Pieces to Life

This ministry turns simple donated materials into something life-changing.
They are made from gifts of donated materials and carefully constructed for warmth and durability. Each one is created using:
• Clean blankets or quilt batting for the warm inner layer
• King and queen-sized flat sheets for the inside lining
• Assorted fabrics for the quilted outer covering
These sleeping bags may be called “ugly quilts,” but to the people receiving them, they are beautiful reminders that someone cares.
